<p>Dermoscopically there is very significant asymmetry, indeed this is a lesion where we really can say the appearance is <strong>chaotic.</strong> There are also <strong>irregular brown clods/dots</strong> around the edge (purple circles) with variable size, shape and shades of brown. The black circles highlight very <strong>eccentric structureless areas </strong>with multiple colours, especially in the lower half of the lesion.</p>
<p>The diagnosis was in keeping with a melanoma of Breslow thickness 0.9 mm.</p>
<p>Most melanomas arise de novo, but occasionally they can arise in pre-existing benign melanocytic naevi.</p>
