<p>The lesion had a peripheral rim of brown clods with significant variation in size and shape, suggestive of a Spitz naevus. The lesion was excised and histology confirmed the diagnosis, no atypical features were seen.</p>
<p>Spitz naevi take on numerous clinical and dermoscopic appearances. <strong>With this pattern the globules are more irregular in shape and size when compared to those seen in a growing benign melanocytic naevus.</strong></p>
<p>Lesions suspected as Spitz naevi are <strong>usually referred urgently</strong>, and then excised as they can have a similar appearance to melanoma, both clinically and dermoscopically. Although the younger the patient, and the more symmetrical the lesion, the more likely the lesion is to be benign. </p>
